The 6th Annual Buddy Bash at Tom Finley Park on June 21 raised $17,000 for cancer research, and it attracted 1,000 celebrants.
It was the largest amount of money raised during Buddy Bash during the event's six-month history.
During the previous five years of the event a total of $55,274 was raised through admission fees, donations and auctions of collectibles.
The event is held every year to remember beloved Cedar Creek Lake personality Capt. Morris (Buddy) Hopkins who died of cancer. This year's event was dedicated to his best friend, Fred Kurlander, who died of cancer since last year's event.
Hopkins' family participates in the annual event, organizing bands who donate their time for the celebration. "Guitar" Eddy Hopkins coordinated the music venue.
The celebration includes music, food and entertainment.
During the previous five years of the celebration, Buddy Bash has raised $55, 274 for cancer research. The money goes to the American Cancer Society.
Hopkins is remebered for his philosophy of life: "Let the good times roll."
The event formerly was held at Cedar Isle Restaurant and Baja Club every year until it burned down two years ago. Hopkins was a regular at the fun nightspot.
