Cedar Creek Lake Car Show & Kiwanis Krawfish Boil coming up

Starting at 8 a.m. on May 6, 2017, hot rods, motorcycles, trucks, and people will start pouring into the Mabank Pavilion for the start of the popular Cedar Creek Lake Car Show & Kiwanis Krawfish Boil, hosted by the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Creek Lake. Also watch for the local Antique Tractor Club members coming in with their machines. The show is now in its 11th year.
The chamber will have breakfast food at the concession, the Chamber Grill Team will fire up the grill for burgers, and NEW this year, a Hawaiian grilled chicken delicacy cooked on a Big Green Egg. At the same time, the Cedar Creek Lake Kiwanis Club volunteers will be cooking crawfish and all the trimmings.

Thanks to the generosity of Mitchell Outdoor Living in Gun Barrel City, the chamber is selling raffle tickets for a chance to own a Big Green Egg cooker and related package, for a total of over $1,400 in value. Tickets are $20 each, with only 300 being sold. Remaining tickets will be sold at the May 6 event and the winner’s name drawn during the awards ceremony at the end. Tickets are available until May 6 at the chamber office and from any CCLACC board member. Call 903-887-3152 for the nearest location to purchase your ticket.

Entry forms for the Car Show are available through the chamber of commerce office. There will be door prizes, a free t-shirt for all pre-registered entries, raffles and 50/50, and lots of good music to add to the festive day. The 2016 Car Show hosted over 180 entries and by all indications and early entries, at least that many are expected this year.
Registration for the show will start at 8 a.m., judging will begin at 11 a.m. and the awards will be presented at 3 p.m. The Show is over when all of the awards have been handed out. The cost to enter is $20, with the proceeds going to the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Cedar Creek Kiwanis Club will be serving crawfish (or “mud bugs”, if you prefer) with all the trimmings. Krawfish prices depend on market price and will be announced at a later date. Orders will be available in a “Boat” that feeds 1, “½ Flat” that will feed 2, and full “Flat” that will feed 6. The Kiwanis Club will try to have the first crawfish ready around 8:30 a.m. They’ll serve till all is gone. Veterans of the event recommend an early arrival for crawfish, as it sells fast. Proceeds from the sale of the crawfish benefit the Kiwanis Club and funds their programs for local kids.

For those folks who don’t care for the crawfish experience, the Chamber of Commerce Grill Team will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers and a new Hawaiian sandwich will be available. Besides the grill orders, other concession food and drinks will be available and souvenir t-shirts and other items will be on sale throughout the day.

Mark your calendar today so you won’t miss out on this day of family fun. Admission and parking are free, there’ll be a charge for food, beverages, souvenirs, raffle tickets and “People’s Choice” votes.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.00 feet at pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the Dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
