The Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corp. and Skate Parks of Austin closed a deal Sept. 28 to open a skate park in Gun Barrel City.
"The GBC skate park will provide a great place four our children and young adults to gather to learn and refine their skating skills," GBC EDC President Steven Schiff said in a press release.
"Aside from now having one of the newest desgned skate parks in the area, this site will bring new tournaments and increased revenues for our surrounding businesses," Schiff added.
Former Mayor Jim Braswell first proposed the constructrion of a skate park while campaigning for mayor.
A feasibility study is now underway that will provide details of the final location and a timeline for construction.
The EDC and the Gun Barrel City Council have approved spending $200,000 for the skate park's construction.
