Tri-County Library Director Brandi Marett told Cedar Creek Lake Chamber of Commerce members recently they are missing out on a "cool" experience if they don't stop by for a visit.
The library now features a coffee bar and new seating arrangment, Marett said. The library staff provides personal service to visitors to help them with find books, learn how to use the computers, do research or whatever else they might want to do, she said.
Marett, who formerly worked for big-name television shows and as an event producer for television and radio galas, called her work at the director of the Mabank library equally enthralling. She also did some acting, including an episode of Law and Order where she appeared as a "dead hooker."
"Seriously, running the library is the coolest thing I've ever done," Marett said.
Marett asked chamber members to support the library so it can continue to offer quality experiences to Cedar Creek Lake Area residents.
"I believe in this library so much," Marett said. "Every little bit helps. If you can find a little in your company budget to give a little to the library, you have no idea how much it will help."
Whiskers the cat is still a resident of the library and also wants to see more visitors, she said.
Marett, who is now a resident of Gun Barrel City, is originally from Corsicana. She replaced longtime librarian Claire Stout who held the job for 18 years before her retirement last year.
Marett said she and her library assistant are both part-time employees who volunteer time in addition to their paid hours. Her enthusiasm for the library extends to her purchasing new books with her own money, she said.
