Cellular Coverage that Can't Be Beat
Can you hear me now?!!! It's a phrase we all know only too well. No matter who your cell provider is, there are dead spots and places where calls just drop off. And what if that bad spot is at your house?
More and more people are ending their landline service and just using a cell phone. If you have poor coverage, you're out-of-luck.
But, maybe not. The Saturday, July 8th meeting of the Cedar Creek (ham) Amateur Radio Club has a solution. We will hear details of how to put a cell site at your home. Club member Trey Garland has done just that. The cell company doesn't install it. Instead you can put together your own site that just covers your home. Pretty cool!
We'll also have reports on Field Day and the other activities of the club. And dues are due.
It will be a most interesting meeting and it is open to the public. It happens at 9 Am on Saturday July 8th at the Mabank Café on Hwy 198 in Mabank.
The club meets the second Saturday of each month there. The meeting starts at 9 AM, but many come early for the breakfast buffet. Anyone interested in technology is welcome.
The Cedar Creek ARC has over forty members from the tri-county area. It maintains a VHF and UHF repeater system that provide hand-held radio coverage to hams in the lake area, and mobile and base coverage throughout the three counties. CCARC participates in the National Weather Service SKYWARN program and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. The club also provides classes to those wishing to join the ranks of Amateur "ham" Radio.
