Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for May 27, 2014

Hello, Jason Barber here with the http://www.kingscreekadventures.com/ fishing and lake report for Cedar Creek Lake. The lake level is at 3.26' low and we are expecting more rain, Cross your fingers and hope we're full pool for the fourth of july! The water temps are in the 70's and the clarity is stained to very stained heading north.

The Hybrids and sandies are schooling most days on the south end, from the Dam up to the Key Ranch flats in 5 to 30' of water near points and humps. Slabs, topwaters and swimbaits will all catch fish. Look out in the 16 to 30' range on up in the day and don't rule out live bait if it is tough. Trolling is another effective method, go with deep diving crankbaits but mix in a Rat-L-Trap or shallower crankbait occasionally.

Catfish are still good early on shallow windblown points throughout the lake and can be caught on fresh shad or other baits like shrimp, worms or punchbait. Try shallow early then move out when the bite slows to deeper water. Fish a spot a while then move until you find good action and you will finally find some active fish.

Largemouth are migrating back out into the lake. With the fresh water and newly flooded willows and other grasses and weeds, you should still find some shallow fish. Just experiment... you may find topwater fish in the coves or on points and you may find dock fish or even offshore fish dear drops with brush on them. You have to be open minded right now because there are fish everywhere. Plastics, crankbaits and topwaters are good.

The Crappie are recovering from an all but complete spawn. The brushpile bite is coming around and fish should start picking up under the bridges as well. Try jigs and minnows in 10 to 20' of water and you should run into some keeper sized fish. There are a few dock fish on select docks that hold deeper water as well. The lake is not supporting a great dock shooting pattern due to the low water conditions but there are a few good docks out there.
Once again, I hope my report brings you up to speed and puts a few more fish in your boats! Thanks as always! Remember, I would love to take you and yours out for a guided fishing trip on beautiful Cedar Creek lake!

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.00 feet at pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the Dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
