Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for July 29, 2014

Hi folks, Jason Barber here with the www.kingscreekadventures.com fishing report for Cedar Creek Lake. The Lake level is at 3.76' low and the water temps are in the high 80's. The water clarity is slightly stained but not too bad for now. The Fish are biting but can be tough on some days with the heat, but here are some things to try.

For the catfish you should start by catching fresh shad and keeping them on ice or alive in a live bait tank, if this is not an option, buy some frozen shad or shrimp or get sdome cut bream or rough fish it will work too. Once you've got bait get out on the mainlake humps and find 20' to 30' of water near a dropoff and fish the area by drifting or anchoring and fishing the bottom. You can also catch alot of fish on top over deep water right now, Get out in the middle of the lake and drift with floating rigs or set floating jugs 1' to 5' from surface and you will catch fish.

Largemouth can be tough but you will find fish around the docks with suitable water on them as well as offshore on humps, points and ridges especially those with brush or any type of trash on them. For the offshore bite stay 8' to 24' and use c-rigs, deep cranks, drop-shot, shakyheads and so on. For the docks try 2 to 10' water with medium cranks, finnesse jigs, plastics rigged any way you like and swimbaits in 3 to 5" shad patterns. You can find some fish on topwaters early around mainlake points with rocks and retaining walls...

Crappie are starting to set back up in brushpiles in 12 to 24' of water, You can still find them under the bridges as well. Make sure you search for the all the way down the bridges and suspended around all the cover you fish. The baits to throw are minnows or jigs in several colors but purple, shad and blk.chart. are all good choices.

Sandies and hybrids are good early and late. The first and last hour are key for schooling activity out on the edges of humps and mainlake flats. Stay near the dropoffs so you can cast towards shallower 10 to 16' water of to 20 to 30' water if needed. be on the lookout for bird activity and shad skipping around. Baits like rat-l-traps, swimbaits and slabs are always good, as the day gets hotter as the sun gets high in the sky stay in the same areas and look for the fish on the bottom with your graph. Present your baits to the fish by casting a pumping the bait near bottom or vertical jigging it straight under the boat.

Thanks as always for reading my report and I hope this helps you put some extra fish in the boat. I f any of you woukld like to book a fishing trip or just ask me some questions please feel free to give me a call @ 903-603-2047 or 903-887-7896

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.00 feet at pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the Dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
