Navigating the Cedar Creek Lake area's country roads became more challenging than ever after the heavy spring rains, but hot weather will help bring relief to road conditions.
Repairs are underway or about to start on some of the worst roads, including the most notorious of all, County Road 4006.
CR 4006 between Harbor Point Road in Gun Barrel City and Adair Road in Mabank will close July 23 for the start of repairs, according to construction supervisors. The repairs will take a couple of weeks, they said.
Residents have waited well over a year for the repairs after Kaufman County voters passed a bond in late 2014 that set aside $200,000 for the repairs to the one-mile stretch of potfilled road.
Repairs to damaged roads inside the city limits of lake-area cities and Henderson County would be the responsibility of those government entities.
Unusually wet weather delayed the start of road repairs this spring by road crews around the lake.
Kaufman County collaborated with Mabank's city officials to bid out the project, but they hit snags when two contractors opted out after determining the project would not be profitable for them.
In the meantime, Mabank Independent School District officials and most residents quit using the road because of its poor condition. Complaints poured into the offices of Kaufman County and Mabank.
Work recently began on CR 4042, and it will begin soon on CR 4028, 4029 and 4030, according to Kaufman County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jakie Allen.
