Family Fun and Shelter Improvements Highlighted June 14

The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake (HSCCL) invites the community to a Shelter Open House on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Shelter staff, volunteers and new Executive Director are excited to show off the Shelter's refreshed grounds and increase pet adoptions by our local residents.

Highlights include a tour of the Shelter grounds and its adorable, adoptable dogs and cats; for that day, there will be reduced adoption fees.

Other things to do at the Open House include:

  • Play the HSCCL Squares game and compete for prizes (tickets to the Dallas Zoo or Gun Barrel City July Fest).
  • Have a photo taken with the Shelter’s adorable mascot “Skeeter.” Sign and leave a message in the Skeeter Fan Book.
  • $25 disccount on all Shelter adoptions that day.
  • Be amazed by Magician Dazzin' Dan and watch Norman, the Dressed Up Pig, do tricks.
  • Learn valuable information on pet microchipping.
  • Flyers for $20 kitten or puppy spay/neutering in June.
  • Find out about low cost spay and neutering facilities in Henderson and Kaufman Counties.
  • Meet city and county leaders.
  • Visit with the new Shelter Executive Director, the volunteer Board of Directors and Shelter Staff; they want your ideas on helping the animals in our area.
  • Check out the latest SUP craze... A water sport you can do even with low lake levels.
  • Find out more about Amateur "Ham" Radio and see a working ham station.
  • Hot dogs and drinks will be available.

Note: This is a family event, but please do not bring family pets on to the premises.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
