The Kemp Independent School District placed former Supt. Sam Swierc on paid administrative leave through August 2015 at a December meeting.
KISD released a joint statment from the Board of Trustees and Swierc that was released in connection with a separation agreement.
The statement read: "Sam Swierc has announced his resignation as Superintendent of Schools for the Kemp Independent School District. An agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Swierc the ability to pursue other interests and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent. Mr. Swierc will remain with the district filling the role of Special Consultant to the Board of Trustees through August 2105. The board and Mr. Swierc have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the district.
"The board extends its best wishes to Mr. Swierc in his future endeavors. On its part, the board will soon begin its search for a new superintendent and anticipates that the process will not disrupt the district's operations."
The board appointed Phil Edwards, former director of special programs, as interim superintendent during a November meeting after Swierc's departure.
The board approved paying Edwards an additional $75 per day to compensate him for taking on the added duties.
