Whiskers & Wags Gala April 23

Friends of the Animals at Cedar Creek Lake along with the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake will host their 4th annual “Whiskers & Wags” charity gala at Athens Country Club on Saturday evening, April 23, 2016.

This year’s Whiskers and Wags gala promises to be a fabulous evening beginning with a welcome reception at 5:30, followed by a gourmet plated dinner, “buy it know” and live auction, raffles, great music provided by DFW DJ – Dan Vandergrifft and lots of dancing! Auction and raffle prizes include everything from a week vacation at a Hilton Grand Resort including airfare, to a Cajun Shrimp Boil for a party of 16.

Since July of 2002, Friends of the Animals has been providing low cost spay/neuter services by appointment, and low cost vaccines, microchipping, and heartworm testing on a walk-in basis every Tuesday from 10am to 2pm and the second Saturday of each month from 2pm to 4pm. Since opening the clinic, over 34,000 surgeries have been performed. Dr. Glen Campbell, named by D Magazine as one of the BEST VETS IN DALLAS, is the clinic’s lead vet. Dr. Robert Garcia oversees the 10-2 Tuesday vaccination services.

Established in 1983, The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake serves the animals and people of Kaufman and Henderson counties and its surrounding municipalities. The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake (HSCCL) provides shelter, food, medical treatment, and care to every animal that is brought to the facility. In addition, HSCCL proudly participates with the Humane Society of Flower Mound, Texas, in its "Love on Wheels" program.

Both Friends of the Animals and The Humane Society of CCL are private, non-profit 501(c)3 organizations and depend solely on the generosity of individual and corporate supporters to fund their programs and services. All proceeds from the gala go directly to both organizations.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for any merchants who want to gain publicity and help area animals, too. Individual gala tickets are $75.00. Reserved tables for eight or more are also available. All tickets, sponsorships, and reserved tables can be purchased on line at www.whiskersandwags.us or at the Friends of the Animals clinic on Tuesdays, or Humane Society of CCL. You can also visit “Whiskers & Wags Gala” on Facebook. For more information, call 903-887-PETS (7387) or email [email protected], or [email protected] .

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
