Sam Swierc, 62, the former superintendent of Kemp Independent School District, recently died.
Swierc saw the school district through a difficult financial struggle from 2012 through 2014. He undertook the challenge while battling cancer, but the school district's financial situation improved significantly during that time.
He resigned in December 2014, and the KISD school board placed him on administrative leave through August 2015.
Swierc's education career in Texas spanned 38 years. He worked in Kenedy, Goliad, Bandera, Pettus, Falls City and Seguin before his final job in Kemp.
His wife, Peggy Swierc, also worked for KISD. She was the coordinator of girl's sports activities. They had three children.
Swierc was buried in Falls City Cemetery.
