Kemp Independent School District plans to add a new athletic center for the 2017-2018 school year.
The KISD Board of Trustees recently made the decision during new budget deliberations. The new $15 million budget also includes the purchase of a day care center building near the administration building. The building will be renovated for an undetermined purpose, which might be used for a staff workout center and more office space.
A trustee advisory team made up of Carissa Roberts, Rusty Clamon and Jerry Gilbert will manage the athletic center project. They will be allowed to spend up to $50,000 on purchases without full board approval.
The board shot down a plan to buy new school buses without adding new safety belts that become law Sept. 1. The Texas Legislature passed the new law in the last session. Trustees will consider new school bus purchases and how to pay for the added costs later.
