The Kaufman County Junior Livestock Show recently honored Seven Points veterinarian Dr. Lisa Jones with the “President’s Award” for her contributions to local youth involved with livestock.
Jones is a well-known philanthropist in the Cedar Creek Lake area, and she runs a busy veterinarian clinic. In addition to small pets like cats and dogs, she also treats cows, horses and other livestock.
Jones graduated from Scurry-Rosser High School, where she was active in livestock shows.
Jones is also known for her compassion for sick and homeless animals. She recently housed a young puppy abandoned on a county road and nursed it back to health before finding it a permanent home.
Her latest project is the development of a scholarship honoring Frances Weeng, a former teacher in the Scurry-Rosser School District who passed away late last year.
Jones described Weeng as animal lover who didn’t want a memorial service held for her. “This is a way I think we can all honor her,” Jones said.
