A 53-year-old Cedar Creek Lake area woman got her sentence commuted by President Barack Obama during his last hours in office
The president commuted the sentences of 330 prisoners. Most were non-violent drug offenders who received extraordinarily long sentences.
She pleaded guilty to manufacturing and distributing methamphetamines and laundring money, receiving a 30-year sentence. Others involved in the same case received much shorter sentences.
She is a motther of two who must enter a drug rehab upon her release effective Jan 19 as a condition of the deal.
Many view long terms for drug offenses as unnecessarily harsh while law enforcement officials often seek tough sentences in an effort to deter drug abuse.
