One of the city’s most frequent critics of the conditions of local streets is now a member of the Payne Springs City Council.
The council appointed Hubert “Dutch” Antoniesse to fill an open seat on the council recently. He frequently has appeared at council meetings to ask city officials to repair streets and clear brush growing on the sides of roads.
Antoniesse is a native of Holland, but he became a U.S. citizen in 1982.
He told the council that America had been good to him, and that he looked forward to serving the citizens of Payne Springs.
The council also appointed police officer April Meadows to be the city’s new police chief.
