The opening of Gun Barrel City's Farmers Market in the City Park Pavilion will be delayed because of the heavy rains seen in the area in May and June.
City officials said the market could not start as planned because the above-average rainfall prevented local farmers and gardeners from growing and harvesting crops.
There is significant interest in a local farmers market, and several people reported being disappointed going to the Pavilion only to find it empty.
The city planned to offer free space to local farmers and gardeners at the Pavilion on Saturday mornings until noon to promote the project.
No date is set for the opening of the market at this time, but a message on the marquee at City Hall notes it will be delayed for two weeks.
The market originally was scheduled to be closed over the July 4 weekend.
