ATHENS -- It's time let the good times roll and help out the needy animals that wind up homeless and dependent upon the kindness of local pet shelters. The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake and the Henderson County Humane Society will host "Casino Royale" at the Cain Center, 915 Palestine St., Saturday, Aug. 11, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The fundraiser, which the groups are billing as an evening out for paws and claws, will feature professional game tables and dealers with prizes from the top five chip winners, a silent auction, a cash bar, a DJ spinning tunes, dancing and hors d'oevres. Games of chance will include blackjack, roulette, Caribbean Stud, three-card poker and Texas Hold'Em. The purchase of tickets, $40 in advance and $45 at the door per person, includes $1,000 in chips. Extra chips can be bought at the event. The event will help raise much needed funds for both animal shelters, said Krista McAnally, director of the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake. "We really need the support of the community," McAnally said. "We're behind in sponsors for the event right now." The Cedar Creek Lake shelter in Tool took in about 3,600 animals last year, including pigs, goats and donkeys as well as dogs and cats, she said. Any business or individual wanting to help sponsor the Cain Center event, can do so as a "Claws Sponsor" at $500, a "Paws Sponsor" at $250 or a "Table Sponsor" at $175. Sponsorships include a business card ad in the program and a sponsorship sign at the event. Business card ads can also be purchased for the Casino Royale program for $25.
