GUN BARREL CITY -- A Christmas parade on Main Street featuring an Elvis Presley impersonator and a fireworks show in City Park will entertain folks Saturday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m.
Pictures with Santa Claus will precede the parade from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fire Department. The fireworks show will start 30 minutes after the parade ends.
The entry fee for the parade requires the donation of six canned goods to help out with a food drive for the needy. Entrants must fill out forms at City Hall, go online at www.gunbarrelcity.net or call 903-887-1087.
About 65 floats and marching bands are expected to participate, and Santa Claus will be riding atop a fire department truck.
Prizes will be awarded for the best parade entrants. The grand prize will be $125, second place $100, third place $75, best theme $75 and best lighting $75.
Prior to the parade, Gun Barrel City merchants will be participating in a holiday decorating contest Monday through Friday, Nov. 26 to Dec. 7. A grand prize of $250 will be awarded to best outdoor decoration. Registration for the contest will also be conducted by City Hall, and the entrance fee also requires a donation of canned foods for the food drive.
In Mabank the annual Parade of Homes will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, noon to 4 p.m. It includes a holiday brunch at the Tri-County Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Also in Mabank, a holiday craft fair called "Get Your Jingle On" featuring about 50 vendors will be held at Mabank Intermediate School, Saturday, Dec. 8, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A toy drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities will also be held. For information about vendor booths call 903-880-1640
On Dec. 14 in Mabank, an "Old Fashioned Christmas on Market Street will be held on Friday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring vendors, music, Santa Claus, kids activities and other holiday fun. Call 903-887-3241 for information.
Purtis Creek State Park will host a drive-through Christmas light event Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 to Dec. 8. The entry fee is $5 per car, but camping will be free Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 for people who decorate their camp site with Christmas decorations. Call 903-425-2332 for information.
Eustace will hold its annual "Christmas on the Square" Saturday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The square will be decorated, and there will be appearance by Santa Claus for pictures to be taken, free carriage rides, holiday drinks and food and choir and band music. There will also be a lighting of the Christmas tree.
