EUSTACE -- The Seventh Annual Pioneer Day 5K Run/Walk will highlight the Saturday, June 16, celebration in the city's historic Town Square.
The City of Eustace was founded in 1900 and named for Captain W.T. Eustace, a Confederate Civil War Veteran from Virginia who settled in Athens in 1867.
The 5K Run/Walk, sponsored in cooperation with the Eustace High School Cross Country Team,starts at 8 a.m. Late registration will be available from 6:45 a.m. until race start at a cost of $20. Early registration before June 11 is $15.
A T-shirt comes in the 5K Run/Walk entrance packet. Registration forms are available at City Hall prior to the day of the event. Online registration available at http://www.active.com or call 903-425-5255.
Awards will be given to winners in various age groups for male and female runners. All age groups are anticipated to take part in the event.
The Eustace Pioneer Day celebration will be an all-day event featuring booths offering food, drinks, crafts and gifts. For booth information call 903-425-2751.
There will be a Pioneer Day parade at 10 a.m., a pet parade at 12:30 p.m., live entertainment and nighttime street dancing to the tunes of John Allen and the Midnight Thunder.
Horseshoe pitching, a cake walk, bingo and other games also are planned.
