Humane Society's casino night this weekend; 'Walk n' Wag' event set for Sept. 15

ATHENS -- The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake will host its "Evening Out for Paws and Claws" at the Cain Center, Saturday, Aug. 11, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Simultaneously, the Humane Society is announcing a second event, "Walk n' Wag", a community 5K walk and run and vendor exposition to be held at the Mabank Pavilion and Walking Trail on Sept. 15 in Mabank. A pet contest featuring a pet and owner dance, a pet groomer make-over contest, a pet costume parade and pet race will follow the 5K event.
Participation in the September event requires a $25 donation, which includes a T-shirt. The pet event requires an additional $5 donation.
Vendors wanting to display arts and crafts and other items in booths at the event must make a $25 donation. Sponsors for the "Walk n' Wag" event are also being sought at the $100, $200 and $300 level.

This weekend's fundraiser is being held in cooperation with the Henderson County Humane Society of Athens. The event will feature professional game tables with dealers, catered hors d' oeuvres, a band, dancing and a silent auction.
The entry fee of $45 per person at the door includes $1,000 in chips, and additional chips can be purchased during the evening. Prior to the event, tickets can be purchased at the animal shelters for $40 each.
Prizes will be given for the top 5 chip winners, and there will be other drawings during the evening.
