Hey folks, Jason Barber here with this weeks fishing report. The lake is now 7.75ft low and water temps are in the low 60's. The clarity is stained to muddy moving from south to north as usual. Launching is a real problem right now with only a couple risky locations available to those willing to take a chance. Log cabin and fisherman's warf have been two locations to launch from in the past week or two but things are changing daily.
The fishing is good if you can get to the fish! The crappie are in brush piles, around bridges and in standing timber. Try jigs and minnows for best results. Color should be experimented with daily on the jigs. Fish depths from 8' to 20' for best results. The largemouth are feeding good on shad and crawfish, so throw imitations of these food sources and you should up your odds. Rat-l-traps, shallow cranks and spinnerbaits are all good choices. Keep a jig and trailer combo or a tx rigged plastic creature bait ready to flip or pitch at any likely looking cover as well.
The hybrids and sandies can be found on main-lake points as well as humps on the south end of the lake in 6' to 20' and even deeper in some areas, just watch your electronics as well as birds for clues to where bait and fish are active. Slabs and rat-l-traps are good as well as swimbaits and flutter spoons. Cast the swimbaits and traps at the breaklines of the points and the shallower areas near the humps and work the slabs and spoons out deeper near bottom. The bluecats are doing really good on fresh cutbait. Try shallow areas from 3' to 8' near points or windblown areas as well as drifting in multiple depths until you find the fish and you shoul see some good action... Until next week good fishing!
