Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for April 2, 2013

Hi folks, Jason Barber here with the weekly kingscreekadventures.com fishing report for Cedar Creek Lake. The water level is at 3.43' low and the water temps are in the low to mid 60's. The water clarity is slightly stained to very stained headed north. The crapie are in full swing. There are spawning fish all over the lake now with lots of good catches reported in as little as a foot of water all the way out to 12'. Minnows and jigs are always good and fish are on multiple types of cover. Search for brushpiles in 5 to 12' to find some prespawn fish and also explore different depths along any of the rip-rap rock available on the lake. There are also fish in the spawning coves on any shallow cover you can find. Look for fish under any of the shaded docks near the back of the coves. The catfish are in the shallows as well. Try windy shorelines in 2 to 8' of water early and late and try moving out to 10 to 15' when the sun is high in the sky. Fresh shad is the best bait but worms, shrimp and other cut bait will work. Stay around main-lake points and humps as well as random shorelines and you should find fish. Largemouth are in the spawning stage as well. Try the backs of all the coves as well as rip-rap throughout the lake and cover lots of water with spinnerbaits and shallow crankbaits. Keep a Tx rigged plastic ready to pitch to and visible cover in 1 to 5' of water. Also try wacky worms and jerkbaits periodcally. Hybrids and sandies are scattered all over the lake. There are lots of fish on the mainlake points early in the mornings chasing the spawning shad. This is an early bite and you can expect to start seeing some surface activity. Baits to keep at arms reach are swimbaits, big topwaters, slabs, Rat-l-traps and fresh shad whole or cut on a carolina rig. You can anchor or just drift or troll around in these areas and you should find active fish. Anchoring is best for fishing the shad on bottom. Stay in water 1 to 6' early and look out in 6 to 15' later in the day with the slabs near bottom. Remember Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle is no longer at Big Chief Landing. We are now located at 640 s. Seven Points Blvd. in Seven points. We are 1/2 mile south of the light towards Tool. We have a great selection of live and frozen bait as well as fishing tackle and accesories. We will be boiling Crawfish Friday and Saturday evenings while they are in season. We also have a full time fishing and hunting guide service available so give us a call to book a trip or ask questions. 903-432-BAIT.
