Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for January 8, 2013

Hi folks, Jason Barber here with the weekly kingscreekadventures.com fishing report for Cedar creek lake. The lake is in good shape with the level being 3.86 ' below normal pool. The clarity is slightly stained bu not in bad shape at all. The water temps are in th high 40's and fishing is slow but not bad if you find them. The catfish can be caught two ways. Try either drifting and anchoring on the south end of the lake, staying in 20 to 40' and fishing with fresh cut shad or rough fish as well as shrimp or live bait. The other option is to go north and fish shallow 2' to 6' deep and deeper if you want there are fish in all depths but the shallow bite is good. Cut shad is best but other things will work. find fish near stump edges and near points as well as drifting open water. For crappie try brushpiles in 16 to 25 ' and deadstick over deeper flats with jigs and minnows on calmer days. You will also still find a few fish around the bridges. You have to be patient untill you find the fish and then the presentation they want which is usually setting dead still, then you can catch them good. The sandies and hybrids can be found deep in 20 to 40' hanging out around the bait scools. Try locating them on the graph and drifting or anchoring and presenting swimbaits and plastics on jigheads as well as spoons and minnows. The less you move your bait the better. and don't be affraid to make some noise this actually attracts sandies and hybrid stripers. As for largemouth just stay with a jig and pork or plastic trailer and fish slow in, under and around boathouses in 3 to 10+ ft. of water and don't expect alot of bites. You can also slow roll a spinnerbait or crankbait if you want to break it up a little. Stop by the bait shop at Big chief landing and see us. It's our slow time of year so if we are out of the shop I am sorry just give us a call. 903-887-7482 or 903-603-2047. We are catching alot of really big hybrid striper, sandbass and bluecats right now feel free to call and book a trip...
