Many businesses around the cedar creek lake area are small businesses. They struggled with the limited options to market or advertise their business because of the lack of budget or marketing experience. As an advertising professional who resides in the cedar creek lake area I have noticed many great businesses come and go because they did not properly market their business. We have to look beyond the local newspapers or magazines that are distributed locally only. Don't get me wrong they are great for getting local customers who already know about your business. But what we need to do is break out of the "local shell". If you are going to have a successful business you are going to have to advertise to the weekenders who have purchased waterfront homes around the cedar creek lake to get out of the daily rush of city life. They come to relax on the quiet lake to boat, eat and shop. You would love to get their business I know. But how do we get in front of them?
To properly advertise to "actually" catch someone's eye is to create a good image for your business. Throw away your black and white or one color business cards, flyers or any other marketing material and break into the full color world. How many times have you received a postcard or business card and it caught your eye just because it had some great colors in the great design. Your business also needs a logo to separate you from other businesses. Your logo should define who your business is and what you do. Put it on all of your print material so you can burn it into people's minds. After you have established a brand, develop a website to reach potential customers outside of the cedar creek lake. Whenever you jump into a website make sure you go into this seriously. DO NOT try to get out cheap or cut corners or you will receive negative results from your poorly designed brother in law website.
So how do you know your brand is going to be successful? You have to get into a habit of promoting your business constantly. Your print materials, website and logo should all work together to develop the whole that represents your business. Make sure whenever you began to develop the items I have listed do not just go with someone that is in a club you're a member of or a relative of someone your friends with. You need a professional company that can but the best foot forward for you.
