ATHENS -- Even though it is still winter, the Athens Farmers Market opens monthly in its off-season schedule. The market opens monthly on Saturdays in conjunction with Canton's First Monday Trade Day. The next market day will be Saturday, March 30. The regular season will begin on Saturday, May 4, when the market will be open weekly. Athens Farmers Market manager D.J. Warren said the market grows larger every year. "We have had tremendous growth this past year and are anticipating much, much more this year," Warren said. Warren said small, local farms and businesses are essential to the local economy, and the Athens Farmers Market is committed to making economic and educational connections between area residents and local farmers and artisans. The Athens Farmers Market is located one block Northeast of the Courthouse in Downtown Historic Athens, TX. It runs from 8a-12p each Saturday May- October.
