SEVEN POINTS -- The Library at Cedar Creek Lake will open its new art gallery and exhibition space on Saturday, Feb. 16, with its first exhibition.
The exhibition will feature the painting of Arnold Hill's resident Rachel McClung-Beer. The event will include a reception featuring a tasting of local domestic wines and cheeses.
McClung-Beer is a retired art professor who taught at North Lake College in Irving. She was the college's first full-time art professor, and she led the effort to establish the college's first art gallery.
Her current work is described as "colorful and multi-layered." A previous exhibition of the professor, who retired in 2004, featured work in black and white.
McClung-Beer describes herself as a "scavenger artist, finding inspiration from things she collects during her travels or afternoon walks and from the images of the life, people and pets around her" according to a North Lake College press release.
The Cedar Creek Lake library's new exhibition space will allow the display of two-dimensional pieces weighing up to 40 pounds.
Library officials want the space to be a venue for artists from local organizations, schools, artists and collectors.
Cedar Creek Lake has a large colony of artists working in many mediums who are encouraged to contact the library about exhibiting their work.
The library is at 410 E. Cedar Creek Parkway, Seven Points, TX. Call 903-432-4185.
