SEVEN POINTS -- Military personnel who have served in defense of the United States during warfare will be honored at a parade on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
Although Veteran's Day is recognized and celebrated locally every year, it will be the first local parade staged to honor the nation's heroes. It is expected to become an annual event.
Veterans Day coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world. All mark the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice in France that ended World War I in 1918.
The local parade is being sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Seven Points and the American Legion in Gun Barrel City.
The parade will begin at the intersection of Nob Hill near the Causeway and proceed on Cedar Creek Parkway to Highway 274, ending at the VFW headquarters on Veterans Lane. The line-up for the parade will begin at 1 p.m., and Cedar Creek Parkway will be closed to traffic.
There will be a ceremony at the conclusion of the parade attended by local public officials.
