SEVEN POINTS -- If you recently ordered high-speed Internet from Century Link and your computer still runs slowly, you may be on the same speed as before. Century Link is flooding mailboxes in the Cedar Creek Lake offering telephone packages that include high-speed Internet when it is sometimes not available. In at least one area of the lake new high-speed Century Link Internet hookups are on "exhaust," which apparently means the phone company has exhausted those resources, according to the phone company's technical department. A technician said until new equipment is installed or an existing customer drops their service, new hookups to the high-speed system cannot be accomplished in at least one area of the lake, which is outside of Seven Points. When asked how the customer service department could be selling the high-speed Internet service in areas where it is not available, the technician said, "We are well aware they are doing that." New equipment will eventually be installed, but there is no date set for that happening, the technician said. In response to being asked why they would market a product that is not available, a Century Link customer service agent said their department has no way of knowing that the area where they are selling the high-speed Internet is exhausted. Customer service apparently is not following up with customers to let them know they are not getting the fast Internet service they were promised during their order. No information is available as to which areas of Century Link service in the lake area are exhausted so it might be a good idea to do a little checking before you commit to service with the telephone company, which its representatives claim is the third-largest telephone company in the nation. It might also be a good idea for Century Link to better coordinate communication among its marketing, customer service and technical departments so the customers don't get the idea the phone company is attempting to put something over on them.
