Yellow Box Environmental will reconsider construction of a waste transfer and recovery station on Gun Barrel Lane.
Developer Nathan Bullard said the project is on "temporary hold," and he and his brother, Chris, might decide to construct the facility at another location. Most of the construction on the project so far has involved earth work so it could be developed for another use, he said.
Bullard said he is still involved in negotiations with the Texas Department of Transportation over water easement rights that will require another couple of months to complete. A decision will be made then, he said.
Neighbors of the project raised concerns in an April town hall meeting about odors, noise and water issues if the facility is built.
The facility would be located in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Gun Barrel City in Henderson County on the border of Mabank.
Bullard promised residents there would be no medical waste, dead animals, pesticides, hazardous materials or anything with a strong odor. The facility would be used to consolidate dumpsters into larger containers for transport to a landfill in Dallas County 45 miles away, he said.
Residents said after the meeting that they remained unconvinced that the facility would be acceptable to them.
