How Will We Bring in the New Year

As 2018 approaches we are all wondering what it will hold.

Many of us are wondering what new things will happen to us in the upcoming year. I challenge your soul to ponder a different question.

What will we do to change ourselves to become better people? After all, some believe in fate, some believe in determination and some believe what happens will happen.

No matter our beliefs, the question remains. What actions will we do to change the outcome of each of our stories? What legacy will leave for our children and our community? On the other hand, how about any of the people we affect directly and indirectly with our choices?

Cedar Creek Lake is a large area that is divided into several different types of groups. Some of the people who are attracted to Cedar Creek Lake are vacationers, some who live full time on the lake, some who live in “normal” homes and some who live out in the country on farms, or a lot in between. Each of us comes from different backgrounds and situations from one extreme to the other.

No matter what our situation or where we live, we are all accountable for our own thoughts, words and what eventually become our actions.

Think about our fellow humans here in Cedar Creek Lake who may not be as fortunate as some of us. Some who have found themselves in circumstances due to unfortunate situations, some who are aging with no one around to care for them and some who do not even have a place to call a home.

What can we do to make a difference here that could have a trickle effect to other areas not only geographically, but in ourselves as well.

Have you ever thought of volunteering? So many organizations near the Lake Area are in dire need of not only monetary contributions but also our time. Time and effort go so much farther than the everyday dollar.

Meals on Wheels, the help center, Love and Action, The Rebecca Project Family Peace Project, GOD’s Grace Food Pantry and Unashamed Romans 1:16 Evangelism are just some to name a few.

A small gesture as simple as checking on a neighbor who you know may need a friend, could also make all the difference in the world. Even if the difference we make, is only to that one person.

As we leave behind the old in 2017, what will we do to make a difference in the world? Even if that means the world to us is only here in the place we all call home near Cedar Creek Lake. It truly does matter.

When we think out with the old, in with the new and make our New Year’s Resolutions, Ponder the thought a step further, that it is not just about us as individuals. We are all connected in different ways. We share the same space, have to learn to cohabitate in a way that is peaceful, loving, and find ways to shine a light in otherwise dark areas for some.

Cedar Creek Lake is amazing but as any community, it needs growth in lots of areas; some areas are taking off without the others. What we need is compassion during growth so that way we all grow together and do not leave anyone behind.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
