Kemp residents soon will be without a full-service grocery store once again.
The Walmart neighborhood grocery that opened in the first quarter of 2015 will shutdown along with 269 other stores nationwide, including 29 in Texas.
The last day of business for most stores will be Jan. 28, according to corporate offices.
Most of the stores closing down opened about a year ago in rural markets.
Walmart officials said they expect customers of the smaller 12,000-square-foot Express stores to shop at the corporation's supercenter stores.
Walmart operates supercenters in Gun Barrel City and Kaufman, which represent long drives on busy highways.
Corporate officials said the closings were necessary to maximize profits and keep the company strong.
