Southside Bank of Tyler notified employees and customers last week it planned to close the Seven Points branch on Cedar Creek Lake in late July.
The branch bank at 210 S. Seven Points Blvd. in Brookshire's grocery story will permanently close July 24 at 7 p.m., according to a letter from bank Executive Vice President Brian K. McCabe dated April 22. Most branch employees, including one that worked as a teller for 10 years, will not be transferred to the full-service Gun Barrel City branch bank or the Athens branch that will continue to serve Cedar Creek Lake customers, and they are looking for new jobs.
Brookshire's may expand the store pharmacy to occupy part of the space now occupied by the branch bank, according to bank employees. That speculation could not be confirmed by grocery store employees, but the pharmacy sits near the branch bank space. The pharmacy is small and overcrowded.
Southside Bank will upgrade the ATM store inside Brookshire's to become a full-service, image-enabled and deposit-taking ATM.
Several bank customers expressed concerns about the loss of convenience the branch closing will cause them. The letter offered no explanation about the reason for the closing, and branch employees said the closing did not surprise them.
