SEVEN POINTS -- "Bras for a Cause," an annual Cedar Creek Lake fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, research and treatment, will be presented by Henderson County Women's Council of Realtors at Cedar Isle Restaurant and Baja Club Saturday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m.
The four-hour party will mark the third time for Cedar Creek Lake business people to raise awareness about breast cancer during October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month nationwide.
The event will include an appearance by "hot firemen models," a fish fry, a live auction, a cash drawing, memory balloons and pink margaritas, according to the Realtors group. Local entertainer Dino Danger will be the emcee.
The focus of the event will be entertainment, but the money raised from it will go to benefit East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System's program in Henderson County for early detection and treatment of cancer.
There are numerous Henderson County residents currently battling breast cancer, which ultimately can spread to other parts of the body and become terminal.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 39,520 U.S. residents will die in 2012, and that 230,480 new invasive cases of breast cancer will occur in that time period.
Another 57,650 cases of non-invasive, or benign, breast cancer cases will occur. Medical experts believe the benign case represent a threat of invasive cancer developing later.
Breast cancer also develops in men, and the organization estimates that 2,140 men will suffer from breast cancer in 2012. That represents about 1 percent of the new invasive breast cancer cases.
Tickets for the event at Cedar Isle cost $25 per person. Contact Lora Tomlinson at 903-681-5577 or Sue Hosack at 860-276-7355 for advance tickets or for sponsorship information.
