There was once a show called "If These Walls Could Talk", I never saw the show but I remember hearing the title of it and thinking of the walls in Sunshine Sales. If those walls could talk, what would they say? Almost 25 years ago, Sunshine Sales and Salvage opened its doors to the public (located on 274 just past the light in Seven Points and in front of the Cedar Creek Humane Society). Pat and Patricia Henry after almost 30 years of owning an Insurance Agency had semi-retired to the area. Never being people to stay stagnant or still, having always been avid garage sale attendees and auction bidders Sunshine Sales was just the next logical step in their love for Antiques and the Unusual.
Over the last almost 25 years so many unusual things have passed through the doors of the store, some stayed while others have ventured off to their new homes. For the longest time anytime you walked through the doors you could expect to hear the Audrey Hepburn like voice of Patricia's mother, Pauline, welcoming you in to look at all the treasures. Because that's what Sunshine Sales is, it's a treasure chest of the unexpected.
On first glance, it may appear to some as a "junk store". But upon entering it you can see it is quite the opposite filled with nostalgia, elegance, and just plain weird. Set aside the valuable merchandise contained within the four walls, there is something so much more. Something you can feel the moment you walk in.
Sunshine Sales is a family affair. Laughter fills it from the ground to the roof. Women come in for an item and stay the afternoon laughing and looking. The stories that have been told around the register could fill a book. Four Generations, three still living, have passed through the doors and behind the register of Sunshine Sales. At any given time there is surely to be more family parked in the parking lot than customers. New customers may feel at times as if they are intruding on a family reunion until they are invited to join in the conversation. The secrets of the lake dwell in those walls, as well as the spirit of my Family. If these walls could talk... I think I would have to stay a while and listen.
