The Kemp Police Dept. and the Kemp Economic Development Corp. plan to open offices in vacant spaces in the Kemp National Bank complex on SH 274.
Under terms of the lease the city will receive free rent for seven years, but it will be responsible for half of the cost to finish out the interior of the spaces, according to city officials.
The current police department behind City Hall needs remodeling and major repairs, officials said. The cost to upgrade the old building would far exceed the cost to finish out the new space, they said.
The EDC office is now in City Hall, which is cramped for space.
