The Cedar Creek Lake Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a "Day at the Texas State Capitol" on Feb. 5 for local leaders to meet with the area's representatives in the 83rd State Legislature.
Chamber representatives are working with State Rep. Lance Gooden's office to arrange meetings with him, State Rep. Jim Pitts and Sen. Robert Nichols and Sen. Bob Deuell. A luncheon invitation is being extended by the Cedar Creek Lake group to the four legislators.
The Cedar Creek Lake group also plans to meet with representatives of the Texas Department of Transportation, the Agriculture Commissioner's office and other selected agencies.
The chamber regularly sponsors lobby day trips to Austin for local leaders to meet with members of new legislative sessions. The new legislators will be sworn in on Jan. 8 at noon at the Capitol.
"It's fun, it's informative and it's important to our community," said Jo Ann Hanstrom, president of the chamber, in a statement.
The lobby day, which will include bus transportation, snacks and lunch, will begin in downtown Mabank at 6 a.m. The group will leave Austin at 4 p.m. and arrive back on Cedar Creek Lake about 8 p.m. The cost is $75 per person.
There will also be a visit to the Capitol Gift Shop for participants who want to purchase souvenirs.
The trip is open to chamber members and all other interested business people and residents. Space will be limited so early reservations are recommended.
