With Primaries in the election coming up, you will see many more signs on corners and the words Republican, Democratic and Libertarian across Henderson as well as Kaufman Counties that cover the Cedar Creek Lake Area. Each candidate is campaigning for the chance to run in the general election against the opposing political party for their seat of choice.
These elections coming up will affect those of us who are full timers and those that own houses or land here regardless of how often you frequent Cedar Creek Lake. When it comes to taxes on housing or land and those of you that visit here as well, when it comes to what is available to you all the way down to the roads you travel on to get here.
The 334 bridge is getting a huge facelift. New businesses are moving into town, Mabank is growing up into a nice place to shop, Gun Barrel City offers great food and citizens in Malakoff are working hard to buy or lease shops to restore the downtown area. Kemp will be getting a new splash pad soon and the Lake Area is prepping already for the upcoming summer season that always brings a boom to our town.
Will 2018 bring great things this year? We are already seeing new modernized housing developments come such as the Edgewater Edition near the Tolosa Feed store, which brings great hope to the area’s local economy.
The City of Kemp’s Police Department and EDC are moving to a new location in preparation for the anticipated growth to hit the West side of Cedar Creek Lake first. The Council spoke of the happiness to see their city grow and the possibility of new things coming to the city for the children to have things to do to occupy their time.
Growth from the DFW to the East has already given Kaufman much growth in the last several years. Senator Nichols and State Representative Lance Gooden have both encouraged the citizens to get ready because the “rush” is coming. Kemp and Seven Points will see the growth first if allowed of sorts.
If there is something you want here, sometimes, all it starts with is an idea that can be turned into a plan. Each City council meets once a month and has a time where they listen to the comments, questions and concerns of the citizens in regards to any topic. Citizen comments are kept at 3 minutes each. City council members and citizens of the community will have to be aware that investors are looking into this community as we speak and are eager to get into this area.
One such investor, Eric Tindall of Cupola Development, L.L.C., just requested a variance of one city’s zoning. Mr. Tindall wants to bring a new kind of housing to the market here that is geared towards Millennials and “empty nesters” who want affordable and economical housing. The Decision was not only tabled during both the regular and a special meeting called in December but was eventually denied in January, leaving the investor to explain, “Henderson County is poised for growth for years to come, with west Henderson receiving that growth first. It is crucial for city government to posture themselves in an inviting way that eases / reduces barriers. I believe affordable quality housing is the catalyst that increases growth, both business and population. West Kaufman has already seen the MegaPlex spill-over and will see very strong growth for many years.
West Henderson will also see growth but of a different nature, at first. The first wave will be revitalization of decaying neighborhoods surrounding the lake, I know many baby boomers that have and are continuing to retire to this area, and they are coming from all over the US, many of these retirees have older children and grandchildren in the Dallas / Fort Worth area but in an effort to conserve their savings have come to Henderson.”
These investors are willing to put millions of dollars into the Cedar Creek Lake Area’s economy. Growth can be scary at times if were not ready, but also can be moving in the sense that it will bring more employment and security for the area expanding.
