TOOL - When Don's Port Marina owner Terry L. Scott closed down the marina and its restaurant the Tikki Hut late last summer, he said he hoped to reopen this spring if Cedar Creek Lake's waters rose.
The lake waters have risen, but it appears Scott will not be reopening his operation. Local real estate agents and boaters report hearing the property is now in foreclosure, and that news has circulated widely. The operation, which was launched in 2008, apparently has fallen victim to the Texas drought and the nation's recession.
The recording on Don's Port Marina's phone only notes the operation is closed. A message left seeking information was not returned. An honor system reportedly is being used to collect fees for launching boats from the marina area.
Henderson County Appraisal District records show the property is still owned by TLS Marina Holdings, LLC.
Local commercial real estate agent Curtis Webster said when a property is foreclosed on by the bank it usually is placed for sale with a real estate broker at some point, but that apparently has not happened yet.
"That's what happens about 90 percent of the time," Webster said. "Sometimes the bank will advertise it for sale."
The news the marina is not expected to open this spring comes as a big disappointment to many people who enjoyed visiting the Tikki Hut and using the marina to gas up their boats and to make purchases at its store.
Neighbors living in the condominium complex next to the marina say they have not seen activity at the marina store or restaurant this spring. Several units at the complex are for sale and have signs in the windows.
One resident said the recession and high gas prices apparently are causing owners of the condo units to place them up for sale or abandon them to foreclosure.
