NUTS! Very Fun Book review about Herb Kelleher and Southwest Airlines with portion of ticket going to the Ronald McDonald House. Reviewed by Randy Mayeux

About Randy Mayeux

After an early start with a deep love for comic books, especially Marvel Comics (he once owned the first edition Spiderman; alas...long gone), Randy graduated to The Hardy Boys, and then to Nero Wolfe mysteries, and finally to the world of nonfiction books. In other words, Randy Mayeux has always loved reading books.

And now, for nearly 24 years, Randy has presented synopses of business books at the First Friday Book Synopsis in Dallas.

In addition to his love of books, he is an official multi-natural-disaster survivor, having experienced a Hurricane, a California earthquake, and now a tornado. He has no plans to move to the coast, knowing that he would simply attract a tsunami.

Randy graduated from Abilene Christian University, where he lettered four years in Tennis; and then earned a Masters Degree from Pepperdine University, and completed classwork for a PhD from the University of Southern California. (Yes, he is in the ranks of the infamous ABDs - all but dissertation).

In his lifetime, Randy has:

• attended a World Series Game

• attended a live Wrestlemania extravaganza

• attended a Rose Parade (actually, more than one)

• sung Amazing Grace in the bedroom/study of John Newton in Olney, England, where Mr. Newton wrote the beloved hymn

• and, in something of a Cajun ritual, has eaten squirrel brains (once; and only once)

{Randy is married to his wife Jeannie. They have two grown sons, and four very energetic grandchildren. Randy and Jeannie now lives in Richardson, TX}.

We are so very lucky to have Randy review this book.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.26 feet above pool. Big numbers of white bass and several trophy-class hybrid stripers have hit the deck. We are consistently finding the best action in 15–22 feet of water. Good go-to setups include a variety of slabs, sometimes paired with 2–3 jigs above, and the always-reliable yellow bladed jig using the proven saw tooth retrieve technique. Trolling spoons at 3 mph in 13–17 feet of water absolutely crushed the white bass. Water temperatures are currently holding around 83 degrees and will continue to rise as summer heats up over the next couple of weeks. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Fishing patterns remain consistent. Catfish are good anchoring on humps in 12-24 feet using small shad or cut shad on the bottom, or drifting larger cut carp, drum or big gizzard shad on flats in 10-25 feet all around the lake. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
