Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for January 12, 2015

Hi folks Jason Barber here with the www.kingscreekadvetures.com fishing report for Cedar Creek lake. The water level is still about 6' low and the water temperature is in the mid to high 40's. The clarity is slightly stained to very stained going north.

The hybrids and sand bass are in deep water feeding on shad heavily. Try staying in 30 to 50' and marking bait and fish on your electronics throughout the middle of the lake. After finding activity drift or anchor while dropping plastic shad imitations down 5 to 10' from bottom. Continuously banging on the bottom of the boat will increase the activity. This simulates feeding birds and fish and attracting the fish.

Crappie are deep as well, stay in 30 to 50' and fish close to subtle bottom changes or brush. Minnows and jigs will work and fishing slow close to the bottom is best. You may still find a few fish in brush in the 16 to 25' range also.

The large mouth are slow but can be caught around any docks with a few feet of water on them. You can also catch fish in deeper brush. Try jigs, drop shot and c-rigs in these areas. Covering shorelines with a rat-l-trap or shallow crank bait in 2 to 6' will put some bass in the boat as well.

Catfish are on fire as well try shallow on the north end 2 to 8' and deep on the south end in 25 to 50' and you'll find fish in both places. Fresh cut bait is best when choosing your bait. Frozen shad or shrimp will work as well but fresh shad, cut carp or drum are my first choices.

It's cold but the fishing is good so give me a call and let's book a trip to get you in on some great winter time action. You can contact me at 903-603-2047 or 903-887-7896

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 75 degrees; 0.43 feet above pool. The hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy! Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the Dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The hybrids and white bass have started schooling in water from 4-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinners and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Catfish are excellent the first couple hours of the day on retaining walls where the shad are spawning using fresh cut or whole shad on a bobber or with a light weight. The bite slows as the day progresses because the catfish are feeding heavily at first light. Later in the day target catfish on the first drop-offs in 5-15 feet of water. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
