Looking for something special for those last-minute hostess gifts? Think jelly – Texas State Fair award-winning jellies by County Road Canning.
Tammy Coston is the award-winning maker who cans these gems in a commercial kitchen in Kaufman.
The unique flavors include Peach, Jalapeno, Apple Pie, Cranberry Pomegranate, Sweet Basil and Blackberry Merlot Wine jellies. These have been available for tasting at several local events in Mabank this year.
A limited supply will be available between now and Christmas. However, they will be available again after Christmas through the month of January. The price is $8 per pint.
These are being offered for sale by Pearl Cantrell, the editor of The Monitor newspaper in Mabank as a fund-raising project to get her to see her grandchildren in Hawaii for Christmas. She is a native of Hawaii who lives on Cedar Creek Lake now.
She’s excited to see her 34-year-old daughter, Kamakoa, dance the part of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker Suite Ballet at The Mamiya Theater in Honolulu.
Kamakoa operates the Page Academy of Dance ballet school in Kaimuki and as a 2005 runner-up for Miss Hawaii is a role model to 75 little girls. The production is mounted by Kamakoa’s ballet master, who is rumored at the age of 80 to making this his last production. Other girls who have risen to professional dancer status will also dance in the other major roles.
Pearl said she imagines sitting on the front row at one of the performances, holding her two grandsons, ages 3 and 1, on her lap and saying, “See how pretty Mommy is.”
