MURCHISON -- The Cleveland Armory Black Beauty Ranch and Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center will show off its 1,250-acre sanctuary for exotic animals during an open house Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saudi, a five-year-old camel,is the newest resident of the sanctuary, which provides homes for exotic animals rescued from circuses and zoos, research laboratories, captive hunting camps and private and public lands. The camel arrived in September, joining 1,100 other animals that include chimpanzees, horses, burros, bobcats, iguanas, tortoises, antelope, deer, ostriches, llamas, bison and other species.
The events at the open house will include walking and bus tours, horse riding demonstrations, introductions to adoptable horses, hay rides and refreshments and snacks will be available.
The open house at the nonprofit sanctuary is free, but donations are encouraged. Donations can include cash, toys for animals and other items that are listed on the organization's website at hsus.org/blackbeauty
Children of all ages are welcome to visit the open house with parents, but pets will not be allowed entrance with families.
The sanctuary is at 12526 County Road 3806, Murchison, TX 75778. It is 95 miles east of Dallas and 24 miles west of Tyler.
