City folks wanting to get away for a weekend can choose from two better quality hotels on Cedar Creek Lake. With fall events like Athens' Annual Fall Festival and Black-eyed Pea Cook Off coming up on Oct. 13, Comfort Suites in Mabank and La Quinta Inn offer hotel rooms and full amenities for travelers wanting to take part in the festivities and not face a long drive home afterwards. The hotels also are convenient to Purtis Creek State Park and Canton for First Monday weekends. The Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized the two hotels as September's Businesses of the Month at its monthly meeting at the Cedar Creek Lake Country Club. Both hotels opened for business in 2010, offering an alternative to the many private homes and smaller inns available for lodging on the lake.
