After more than 30 years of providing groceries to Cedar Creek Lake residents, David's grocery store will close its doors for the last time on Jan. 4.
Employees of the store who are losing their jobs confirmed within the last week the rumor was in fact true. The store would close permanently after the first of the year.
"I'm just sick about it," said one employee who has worked there for 13 years.
Only a couple of assistant managers will be transferred to other David's locations in neighboring towns, according to store employees. The closing of the store is being blamed on it "just not being able to make it" any longer.
David's sits just a couple of blocks away from the more modern and attractive Brookshire's store on Highway 274.
Some longtime customers also are heart broken. "I've been shopping here since it first opened," one customer said. "I broke down in the store and cried when I heard about it."
Brookshire's and WalMart will offer the only grocery stores on the south side of Cedar Creek Lake after closing.
David's made an official announcement of the closing in the Jan. 1 issue of the Lake Area Leader. The shopper includes a half-page ad announcing a "Going Out of Business Sale."
The remaining inventory of the store will be marked down 30 percent at the register from Jan. 1 through Jan. 4. The store will be open on New Year's Day.
David's has ran weekly ads in the advertising mailer for several years, and the loss of that advertising revenue is expected to make a strong impact on the publishing company, which also produces "The Monitor."
Additionally, the City of Seven Points is expected to lose sales tax revenue as former customers of David's travel to WalMart in Gun Barrel City.
David's Supermarkets is an independently owned and operated supermarket chain headquartered in Grandview, Texas. David's has been serving Texas communities since 1964.
David's had 22 locations prior to the closing of the Seven Points store.
