Gun Barrel City to roll out multiple summer entertainment venues in June and July

It’s summer-fun time in Gun Barrel City, and the months of June and July will be big ones.

The festivities begin with lawn mower racing when Gun Barrel City hosts the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series June 11-12 at 8 a.m. at Gun Barrel City Park.

A night at home will be in order June 14 to watch Cedar Creek Lake’s rising singing star Kadie Lynn perform on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” at 7 p.m. on Channel 5. A preview of her singing filmed by Superior Dabe Production Co.: Xclusiv Media filmed in Kemp is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDg-TmAlifg.

Then on June 17 the new Gun Barrel City Boat Ramp will be dedicated at noon. The boat ramp will be opened to for public use at the site of the old Big Chief Lodging complex. The city bought the property and demolished the buildings to establish a park for picnics, fishing and launching boats.

The highlight of the summer in Gun Barrel City comes on July 2 when July Fest kicks off. This year’s event will feature local singing sensation Kadie Lynn, Teenage Ninja Turtles, The 106.9  Ranch Battle of the Bands with Texas Country musicians the Drew Fish Band and Jason James, Whiskey Myers band, musicians Cole Risner and Joe Austin singing their song about Gun Barrel City, Blacktop Mojo band and Mike Ryan performing “Dancing All Around It.” There will also be a carnival staged by Triple T Amusements, a pizza party with the Ninja Turtles, a free movie in the park along with the concert.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Bring lawn chairs, and coolers are allowed in the park for a $10 fee. Visit http://www.gunbarrelcity.net/ for information.

On July 8 the new Jim and Judy Braswell Skate Park will be dedicated. It is under construction behind the Gun Barrel City Justice Center in the City Park at Mabelle Lane and Maintenance Drive.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

EXCELLENT. Slightly stained; 70 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Hybrid striped bass and white bass have made a full recovery from the spawn and are now back in the main lake in droves and are on a feeding frenzy. Look for heavy bird activity throughout the lake on flats and near the dam on edges of drop offs especially on cloudy and overcast days. The Hybrids and Whitebass have started schooling in water from 6-14 feet at the dam and any wind blown shallow point or seawall. Late evening schooling action is also happening in shallow coves and points throughout the lake. Reports of great catches using silver or white slabs and spinnerbaits and retrieving off the bottom at a very slow retrieve to catch these fish in depths of 8-16 feet of water. The crappie have also migrated back into the main lake. Look for them under bridge pylons or under docks where the depths are between 3-10 feet. Guides have been reporting exceptionally nice catches on sunny warmer days. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service.
