GUN BARREL CITY -- Headliners Kevin Fowler and Vanilla Ice in concert at July Fest on Saturday July 6 at the City Park Pavilion are expected to draw a larger crowd than ever to the annual event.
This year the event will include a car show managed by Cedar Creek car enthusiast Bill Hanstrom, who just finished the successful Cedar Creek Lake Car Show and Kiwanis Krawfish Boil at the Mabank Pavilion. That car show attracted 170 entries and several thousand visitors.
Gun Barrel City Manager Gerry Boren said the concert that featured Vanilla Ice last year drew about 1,800 people. "It's been doubling every year," Boren said so this year should be a bigger success than ever before seen. Budweiser is in part sponsoring the event with a $5,000 contribution to the show.
The day-long family-oriented event will include the Triple T Amusement Carnival, live concerts, the car show, games and an evening fireworks show choreographed to music. Buck-em Entertainment featuring DJ Kenny Boyle will be on hand spinning tunes.
The car show will feature awards for top 30, best in show, best paint and best interior. There will be five special awards from city officials. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with judging at 11 a.m. and awards at 3 p.m. The first 100 to register for the car show will receive a free July Fest Car Show T-shirt, dash plaque and a free admission to the Saturday night concert.
