The Mabank Depot Toy Train and Railroad Museum displays a model train collection dating back to the 1930s.
The museum sits near the site of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad tracks that ceased running through Mabank in the 1970s. Along with the model trains, museum owner Roger Barker presents railroad memorabilia dating back to the 1800s and toy trains and equipment for gift purchases.
Several towns along the old train rails, including Mabank and Kemp, thrived in the early part of the last century because of the passengers and railroad employees passing through the area.
People seldom travel in Texas by train anymore, but the idea of it seems to appeal to most everyone.
The museum became popular statewide when it opened about a year ago after the Train Collectors Association held a meeting there.
The operation is designed to resemble a train station and platform.
The facility is available for group meetings, field trips and other gatherings. Admissin is $6 for adult, and children under 12 get in free. First responders and veterans get a $1 discount on tickets.
