Krappie Kings films segment on Cedar Creek Lake; show to air in early 2016

The cable television show Krappie Kings will air an episode recently filmed on Cedar Creek Lake in January 2016 on Dish and Direct TV.

The show, hosted by Karl Kalonka of Bradford, Ontario in Canada, will be aired on The World Fishing Network. The Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corp. arranged for and financially subsidized the visit to Cedar Creek Lake by Kalonka.

Longtime community activist and EDC board member Patsy Black coordinated the visit by Kalonka. The EDC contributed about $7,000 to the project.

In addition to filming the television crew fishing on the lake, the program also will include a cooking and dining episode in Gun Barrel City's restaurant, Hector's Mexican Restaurant.

Kalonka said it was his first visit to Texas. He travels around the United States and Canada looking for perfect fishing areas for the show, which is in its third season.

The show promotes tourism and travel in North America by featuring people, fishing destinations and cooking of the catches.

The show reaches 36 million households, according to Kalonka. Gun Barrel City officials hope the show's reach will bring new tourism to Cedar Creek Lake.

Gun Barrel City Mayor Jim Braswell will be featured in the Cedar Creek Lake episode welcoming Kalonka and his crew to the area.

As the fourth-largest reservoir in Texas, Cedar Creek Lake is a popular fishing destination. The presence of heavy brush and trees in the water makes the lake a good breeding ground for fish.

After leaving Cedar Creek Lake, Kalonka headed to Louisiana to film an episode with the Duck Dynasty Crew.

Water Level on 7/17: 321.72 (-0.28)

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 17)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.25 feet above pool. Water level is 3 inches low. Big numbers of white bass and several trophy-class hybrid stripers have hit the deck. There is consistent action in 15-22 feet of water. A good go-to setup include a variety of slabs, spinnerbaits and the always-reliable yellow bladed Bo Blade spinner using the proven saw tooth retrieve technique. Trolling spoons with a hellbender set up at 3 mph in 13–17 feet of water is absolutely crushing the white bass. Water temperatures are currently holding around 83-86 degrees and will continue to rise as summer heats up over the next couple of weeks. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Catfish are good anchoring on main lake humps and points in 13-24 feet, or drifting flat areas in 10-20 feet. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
