Brookshire's will be sponsoring a food drive for needy families for the 35th year.
The food store chain will continue the drive through Dec. 21, collecting non-perishable food items to be distributed through local service organizations and food pantries to people in need.
Customers can purchase and donate pre-assembled grab bags for $5 or scan coupons for $1 or $5 that will be used to purchase additional food items.
The goal is to provide a week's worth of food to 15,000 households through the company's market area. Recipients will get a box of food and a coupon for a free roasting hen.
Brookshire's CEO Brad Brookshire said the mission is to make communities better with the help of company employees and customers.
The annual food drive began in Tyler in 1982. Last year, 500,000 pounds of food was distributed to the needy, according to the company.
